Postponed Wedding? Here’s How to Store Your Gown

If your wedding has been postponed, you’re undoubtedly making alternate plans. Maybe the “backyard wedding” isn’t quite your style and you’re choosing to wait. Or, maybe you’re having a small ceremony on your original wedding date and the reception later. No matter what your plans, here are a few tips on how to safely store your gown until the big day.

  1. Place the dress in a breathable garment bag: Often when dresses are delivered to the bridal boutique, there is plastic poly that is around the dress. Oceanside recommends removing the plastic and leaving the gown in the breathable garment bag. If the external garment bag is plastic material, we would be more than happy to provide you with a breathable cloth bag.
  2. Hang the gown on the hanger straps: Most dresses have “hanger straps” that are sewn inside of the dress. Using these will prevent the actual gown straps from stretching due to the dress hanging for an extended period of time.
  3. Do not store in a garage or attic: The safest place to store a gown is in a closet or a room that is climate-controlled and away from a window.
  4. Check on the gown every few months: We recommend checking the gown every few months to make sure it looks the way it did when you picked it up from the bridal boutique.

Do not hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions. We would love to answer them! Keep in mind, if you are wearing your gown twice and are needing it cleaned between celebrations, we are offering 25% off cleaning after your first celebration.
